How to Turn One YouTube Video Into a Facebook Post
Turn one YouTube video into a Facebook post people want to read. Meta's official guidance on originality, engagement bait, and video, plus a workflow using Repurpose AI.

A YouTube video you already made can carry a Facebook post, but pasting the link and walking away rarely does the job. Meta publishes guidance on which posts get shown and which get demoted. Start there, then write the post.
For a work-tone feed update instead, see How to Turn One YouTube Video Into a LinkedIn Post. For a community discussion post, see How to Turn One YouTube Video Into a Reddit Post.
Why a Facebook Post Needs More Than a Link
A bare YouTube link asks people to leave Facebook before they get anything. A post built from your video should hand friends and followers its point in the feed, whether they click or not.
Repurpose AI's homepage lists Facebook Post as one of the places you can send a video, described as friendly posts for friends, with the goals "Friendly tone," "Picture words," and "For everyone."
What Meta's Official Guidance Says
Meta's creator blog post Combating Unoriginal Content (July 14, 2025) says that pages and profiles "receive the greatest distribution when they consist primarily of original content that you filmed or created," and that you can share the same content across any of your Pages or profiles. Your own YouTube video is your own content. Meta's target is repeated reposting of other creators' content without permission or meaningful enhancements.
The same post has caption advice worth copying: "captions with no links, minimal use of capital letters, and no more than five hashtags perform best."
Meta Business Help's page How to avoid posting engagement bait on Facebook says posts and Pages that urge people to like, share, comment, tag, or vote "solely to boost reach rather than foster genuine interaction" will receive less distribution. It lists react baiting, comment baiting, share baiting, and vote baiting, and says calls for help, advice, or recommendations are treated differently.
Meta's Transparency Center page on reducing the distribution of problematic content adds clickbait, links to websites that are covered with ads, slow to load or broken, and limited originality content principally repurposed from other sources.
Decide Between a Link, a Clip, or Both
A link post sends people to the full video on YouTube. A clip uploaded to Facebook plays right in the feed. Pick based on where you want the viewing to happen, or do both in separate posts. Facebook's Help Center page Create a reel on Facebook says that since September 2025 "all videos posted to Facebook will be shared as reels, regardless of length or orientation," except Stories and Live. Meta's June 2025 announcement adds that reels on Facebook will not have any length or format restrictions.
Meta's 2021 creator guide Best practices for optimizing your video on Facebook suggests cutting a 3-minute "Facebook cut" from long-form content, and recommends 4:5 for video on Facebook because people watch on mobile in vertical orientation.
Repurpose AI does not render 4:5 today. YouTube to Video Clips renders square 1:1 or widescreen 16:9 MP4s with captions, and its FAQ says square clips work best in Instagram and Facebook feeds. YouTube to Shorts renders vertical 9:16 clips. For the format choice itself, see Which YouTube Clip Format to Use.
Pull a Summary and a Transcript First
Posts written from memory drift from what you actually said on camera, so pull the source text first.
- Get the shape fast. Repurpose AI's YouTube Video Summarizer takes a pasted link and returns a concise summary with key points.
- Check the exact wording. Use the YouTube Transcript Generator from a YouTube link or an uploaded file.
- Mark the one idea you want the Facebook post to carry.
Repurpose AI accounts start with 5 free credits and no credit card, shared across the tools. For the choice between the two, see YouTube Transcript vs Summary.
Write a First Line That Says Something
Meta's 2021 video guide says keeping video descriptions to one sentence can help increase engagement, compared to longer descriptions of three sentences or more, and asks you to be "direct, explicit and descriptive." Open with the video's main point in plain words.
Don't hold back the answer to force a click. Meta's guide A creator's guide to growth calls this watchbait: content that withholds information, sensationalizes, or misleads viewers into watching.
Keep the Body Short and Friendly
After the first line, give one takeaway in a few short sentences, written the way you'd explain it to a friend.
- One idea per post, tied to the video or clip
- Spoken filler cut, and gestures like "this part here" replaced with what you meant
- Minimal capital letters and no more than five hashtags, per Meta's caption advice
Ask a Real Question, Not for Likes
Meta's 2021 guide suggests posing open-ended questions instead of asking fans to like, comment, and share. A question about the viewer's own situation is fine. "Comment YES if you agree" is comment baiting under Meta's engagement bait guidance.
Get the Link Preview Right
If you post a YouTube link, check what the preview will show. YouTube Help's page Fix wrong video metadata on Facebook and X says to make sure the video is processed, public, and has its metadata set before you paste the link, because pasting adds the video info at that moment into the cache. If the title or thumbnail is wrong, enter the video URL in the Facebook debug tool to update the cached title and description.
Meta's Link Sharing FAQ adds that once a shared link has more than 50 interactions, its title cannot be changed, and that you can update an old preview image from the post's menu with Refresh share attachment.
Edit for Voice and Post It Yourself
Repurpose AI's homepage offers Keep Your Voice: turn it on so generated content learns how you talk from your video and writes in the same way. Treat the Facebook Post draft as a starting point. Read it out loud and cut anything you wouldn't say.
Repurpose AI gives you the post to review and copy, and you publish it on Facebook yourself. If you upload a clip to a Page, Facebook's Help Center page Post or edit a video on your Facebook Page lists Video options for a title, tags, captions, or a thumbnail.
How Repurpose AI Fits the Facebook Pass
There is no dedicated YouTube-to-Facebook-post page on the live site today. The shipped path is the homepage flow: paste a YouTube link or upload a video, then pick Facebook Post as a destination, and optionally a clip destination. Each selected platform uses 1 credit, and each clip render uses 1 more.
A practical split:
- YouTube Video Summarizer or YouTube Transcript Generator for the source map
- YouTube to Video Clips for a square or widescreen clip, or YouTube to Shorts for vertical
- Homepage Facebook Post destination, with Keep Your Voice if you want it, for the copy
- Your own edit, then posting from Facebook

Mistakes That Waste a Good Video
- Posting a bare YouTube link with no words
- A first line that only says a new video is out
- Asking people to like, comment, or share to boost reach
- A teaser that hides the point
- Pasting the YouTube description, timestamps and all
- Sharing the link before the video is public and its thumbnail is set
- Claiming results or numbers the video didn't show
Final Check
Before you post, read the first line by itself. If it makes sense alone, the body carries one takeaway, any question is one you actually want answered, and the link preview shows the right title and thumbnail, it's ready. Last test: it should sound like you.
Start from a summary or transcript, open the homepage to draft a Facebook Post, edit it, and post it from Facebook. For more free YouTube tools in one place, use /tools.
